Idea Group Joins 30% Club
November 5, 2015
Idea Group has always considered that conducting business in a responsible and ethical way is of paramount importance. We believe that our clients appreciate working with a firm that adopts an approach which recognises these values, and are therefore delighted to announce our membership of the 30% Club (www.30percentclub.org).
The 30% Club has a stated aim of ensuring that at least 30% of each FTSE 100 Board is female by the end of 2015, and also plays an important role across several aspects of education and diversity. Membership is usually restricted to the CEOs of publicly listed companies, but Idea Group CEO Bill Gourlay was permitted to join this select community due to the excellent ethical policy and diversity track record of the firm.
With a staffing pool that is currently 54% female, Idea Group demonstrates many of the key values that the 30% Club is seeking to promote. Bill Gourlay stated; "We operate as a firm that recognises the value of a diverse and expert team. The important thing is that we get the right people, with the right skills, for the job. If that means that we need to be a bit more flexible in the way that we allow people to work, then that has to make sense, as it allows us to bring the best possible team together for our clients."
A good example of the success of this approach is Marian Sexton-Jennings, who has joined Idea Group on a part-time basis, following a career break of 2 years to raise her young family. She stated, "Having worked in the city for over 13 years, I am aware of the difficulty countless women face when returning to the workplace following maternity leave. So many employers pay lip service to the issues publicly but are not willing to embrace flexible working in practice. Idea Group is a progressive company which recognises and appreciates the value my experience and skillset bring to the table. Allowing me to work part-time, combining office and home-based hours, ensures that I make an effective contribution to the business whilst also being very much present in the daily lives of my children."
We look forward to working with the 30% Club to share this ethos with other firms and organisations.
